The “styled” John Deere Model “D” tractors were popular with farmers who needed more power and greater productive capacity.  These late-model “D’s” were rated at 42 horsepower at the drawbar.  They were considered a 3- or 4-plow bottom tractor, depending on soil conditions, yet weighed no more than three good draft horses.

The picture of the full-size tractor is owned by my Dad.  It was bought my Grandfather.  He used it to do custom threshing of wheat for the farmers in the area.  My Dad operated the tractor while my Grandfather was operating the threshing machine.

My Dad bought the tractor from his uncle, and had it restored to original condition.  It can be a bit of a workout to crank this 500 cubic inch engine over to get it started!

More information can be found about the Model D at TractorData.
